Corbucci, Sergio (1927)
Director. Aka Stanley Corbett,
Gordon Wilson Jr. Ex-film critic (in Rome) who trained
as an assistant to Roberto Rossellini
before becoming a director of
popular Italian films in a variety of genres (sometimes with his brother Bruno). I 'sually based at Cinecitta, he directed 'peplums' such as Romulus and Remus and wrote comedies before
specializ?ing in Italian Westerns. His comic-strip style, with an emphasis on
graphic visual cliches, then came into its own. Corbucci was the first Italian
director of Westerns to use his real name, and in the late 60s moved on to
'political' Spaghettis. His films tend to chuck strong visual images in the
direction of the audience, like an animator.
