Curtis, Ken (1916)
Actor. If you were the
son of a cattle-rancher, attended Muddy Creek Grade School, had a pleasant singing voice, and were young
in the 40s, you had to make the grade as a star of B-Westerns. Ken Curtis did,
with a string of them for Colum?bia. He also appeared in several films, not
separately credited, as
a member of the Western singing group The Sons
of the Pioneers. But ahead lay another career as a gitted character
actor. Curtis married John Ford's daughter Barbara, and appeared in many Ford
movies, most memorably as the engaging Charlie of
The Searchers, whom Vera Miles so cruelly ditches in favour
of the long-absent Jeffrey Hunter.
