Dern, Bruce (1936)
Actor. Blessed with steely
eyes and a toothy grin, Dern was typecast early in his eclectic career into
playing a succession of nervy psychos and losers. Even after meatier leading
roles started coming his way in the 70s, his Western appearances remained in
the realm of villainy, though the amiable Jack Straw-horn who is Posse's lesser
evil and the eponymous outlaw of Harry Tracy represent somewhat more
sympathetic characters than that of the man who shot John Wayne in the back in
The Cowboys.
