Donlevy,?? Brian?? (1899-1972)??
Actor.?A powerfully? built, dominating - and often domineering - presence on the screen, he was born in Ireland and after arriving in the us?as?a?boy?led?a?? colourful?life?which included?serving?as?a?bugler?in?General Pershing's expedition against Pancho Villa. He?moved?into?acting?via?the?unlikelyseeming?activity?of modelling?shirts,?and created a strong impression in the late 30s, playing unregenerately nasty characters in several major Westerns of the time (though perhaps?most?famously?in?the?Foreign Legion movie Beau Geste, 1939). He subsequently played leads in lesser films, some?times in comedies or on the side of right, but it seems appropriate that he should have twice (in Kansas Raiders and? The Woman They?Almost?Lynched)?impersonated?the notorious guerrilla Charles Quantrill.
