?Actress. In her non-Western films Anne Baxter could be the essence of calm: calmly devious in All About Eve, calmly sincere in The Magnificent Ambersons. But something about the West seemed to transform the lady into the high-spirited youngster of Yellow Sky, the dance-hall girl of The Spoilers (a role in which she followed Dietrich), even the sharp-shooting miss of A Ticket to Tomahauk. Perhaps that was where her heart was: hear?ing her tell the story of the Indian in Ambersons one could well have thought so. She would have made a wonderful Ford heroine, ?
