Bond, Ward (1905-60)
Actor. Ward Bond's Western
career began in the epic The Big Trail and his last film but one was the
Hawks classic Rio Bravo. In between he established a gruff though sometimes
genial persona in a prolific career ranging from Buck Jones Westerns to more
prestigious pictures such as Dodge City and Santa Fe Trail. He
became a prominent member of the John Ford stock company of actors and played
key supporting roles in many of Ford's best known Westerns, notably My Darling
Clementine, Fort Apache, Wagon Master and The Searchers. At
the end of his career he had great success with the anchor role in Wagon Train.
