Boone, Richard (1921 - 81)
Actor. Burly and grizzled,
ageless and taciturn, Richard Boone was one of the most striking of the
Western's good-badmen. Boone was an actor filled with the weight of experience.
It took a Western hero all his time to live with him, and perhaps only Randolph
Scott, in Budd Boetticher's The Tall T, really man?aged it. In that
finely judged film Boone's outlaw, who is a homesteader at heart, rightly takes
his share of the viewer's sympa?thy. Boone created another memorable outlaw in
Hombre; yet on the side of virtue, as with his Sam Houston in The Alamo, he
could be equally impressive. From 1957 he became well known in the lead part in
