Bowers, William (1916 - 87)
A former jour?nalist, he began
a prolific screenwriting career in 1942, and despite once claiming that he had
never been near a horse, he worked quite often on Westerns. His scripts vary
widely in tone and achievement, but include the beautifully modulated The Lau' and
Jake Wade. His most distinct contri?bution to the genre, however, was in
the vein of relaxed, semi-satirical comedy, as with The Sheepman and Support
Your Local Sher-iff!
