Bumette, Smiley (1911-67)

?Actor, aka Lester Bumette. Autry's almost ever-present side-kick at Republic, before Autry joined the war effort in 1942, he was later to provide comic relief for Roy Rogers and Charles Starrett, before rejoining Autry for the latter's final six Columbia pictures. A tal?ented musician and composer, Burnette is best known as the Frog Millhouse character in the Autry films, where his chubby, dis?hevelled appearance, and voice alternating between deep bass and high-pitched treble as he told his celebrated 'tall tales', provided the comic contrast to Autry.
