Busch, Niven (1903)
?The writer most associated with the advent of the supposed 'psychological Western' in the late 40s, as screenwriter of Pursued and author of the novels from which Duel in the Sun and The Furies derived. Busch himself denied any overt Freudian intent and said his aim was only to 'make the people real and give them three dimensions in terms of modern cul?ture'. He went on to write and produce The Capture, which starred his then wife Teresa Wright, but his involvement with the cinema later seemed to wane. Apart from a contribution to the story of The Man from the Alamo, his 50s work is much more ordinary, with The Treasure of Pancho Villa particularly disappointing.
