 Canutt, Yakima (1895-1986)

Stuntman par excellence, known best for his uncredited work on Stagecoach and as director of the chariot race in the 1959 Ben Hur. A cham?pion rodeo rider before he  entered   the movies, he got his first starring role in Ridin' Mad. But it was in The Devil Horse that his reputation as a stuntman was formed. The stunts included a ninety-foot clifftop leap on horseback. Due to damaged vocal cords his days as a star ended with the advent of sound and he turned to stunt work full-time. The titles listed below include many on which Canutt worked as a stunt double and for which he received no on-screen credit.
