Carradine, John (1906) ?
Actor. Known as John Peter Richmond prior to signing a contract with Fox in 1935, Carradine was for over halt a century one of Hollywood's leading support players. Thin-lipped and with piercing eyes, he had a tall, gaunt frame ideally suited to the role of screen villain, with which he is so closely associated, particularly in the 50s (the vengeful farmer in Ramona; the treacherous Bob Ford in Jesse James; the evil Caldwell in Drums Along the Mohawk). In Stagecoach he played a gentlemanly Southern gambler, and later in his career he was often seen in very different roles from those of his early career, includ?ing a poignant performance as Joan Craw?ford's faithful servant, Old Tom, in Johmy Quitar.?
