Carey, Harry (1878-1947)

Carey started his film career at Biograph, becoming part of D. W. Griffith's stock company and appearing in a number of his one- and two-reel West?erns. Moving to Universal in 1915, he formed a close relationship with John Ford and starred in the latter's first Westerns, often playing the character 'Cheyenne Harry'. More craggy than handsome, Carey was an actor rather than an athlete, and this is reflected in the (Hart-like) roles he played at Universal and throughout the 20s. In the early 30s he was a Western serial and series star, but thereafter was mainly cast as a character actor.
